There is always something going on in Soltau. Classic events in Soltau’s cultural life encompass concerts of the city’s music school as well as theater plays performed by professional or local non-professional actors. But Soltau still has got a lot more to offer. Every year, almost all of Soltau’s associations present themselves at least during one public event.

Once a year, Soltau celebrates its four-day shooting festival. Several markets take place during the course of the year. During the summer months, people come together at one of the “Backofenfeste”, festivals where different regional gastronomic specialties are served directly from the stone oven, or enjoy the grand display of fireworks at the “Lichterfest”. A lot of people like to gather at the “Soltauer Sommer/Treffpunkt Hagen”, where a series of cultural open-air events takes place. Poetry reading, series of lectures, great small-scale performing arts and concerts in the “Waldmühle” library form another significant part of Soltau’s cultural life. Authors may rent an apartment in the “Waldmühle” and get inspired by the atmosphere of the former mill. Until now, many well-known artists such as Christine Brückner, Stefan Heym and Lev Kopelev have already signed up in the mill’s guestbook.
